A 54-YEAR-OLD man was seriously injured in the early hours of this morning (Thursday) after a hit and run incident near Shefford.

At around 12.45am two pedestrians were walking along the A507 between A600 junction and the Ivel Road junction on the east bound side of the road.

The road was unlit and they had their backs to the oncoming traffic.

The victim was walking on the road between the kerb and the adjacent white line when the Ford van, registered in 2004/2005, approached from behind hit him and failed to stop.

He was taken to Lister Hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening at this time.

Bedfordshire police are appealing for any information and witnesses to the incident.

PC Terry Nesbitt, of the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The driver of this Ford van would have know he had hit something and the force of the collision knocked his nearside wing mirror off. We would like the driver to contact us to assist us with our investigation.

“We would also like any other drivers using the A507 between Shefford and the A1 at around 12.45am this morning, Thursday January 27, to contact us if they saw this incident or the Ford van leaving the scene.

“We’d also like to know if anyone notices a Ford van with its nearside wing mirror missing or if they are asked to make such a repair.”

If anyone has any further information please contact PC Terry Nesbitt on 01234842469 or text to 07786 200011.

Or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
