An electric shock victim who suffered facial burns in Stevenage today has been airlifted to hospital, the ambulance service has confirmed.

Paramedics were called to Stevenage town centre at 11.30am this morning, with a rapid response vehicle, ambulance crew and Essex & Herts Air Ambulance attending the scene.

The Essex & Herts Air Ambulance was seen to attempt a landing on top of the Westgate Shopping Centre, but an ambulance service spokesman said it landed at Stevenage Cricket Club on the other side of Fairlands Way.

The paramedics treated a man with burns to his face, who has now been airlifted to Broomfield Hospital near Chelmsford for further care.

The ambulance service do not believe his injuries to be life-threatening.
