Station Road in Letchworth shut after car crashes into shop – leaving woman with suspected head injury

A 30-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with a suspected head injury after the car she was driving crashed into a shop early this morning – with Station Road in Letchworth partially shut as a result.

Emergency services were called at about 5.45am after a black Audi A4 crashed into the shop window of iFix Computing in Station Road.

Two ambulances, the Hazardous Area Response Team and the Magpas air ambulance medical car all attended, and, after initial treatment at the scene, the woman was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage for further care. A police spokesman described her injuries as ‘serious’.

Police have closed the bottom of Station Road – close to the roundabout for Norton Way North/South and Birds Hill – with investigations on-going at the scene.

The fire service also attended to assess any structural damage to the building.
