A 76-YEAR-OLD woman was taken to hospital today (Friday) after her car overturned in Hitchin.

The woman’s car collided with a lamppost on Fishponds Road, causing her vehicle to overturn.

She was taken to Lister Hospital after fire crews cut open her door to let her out. Her injuries were described as minor.

The East of England Ambulance Service were alerted to the accident just before noon. Crews from Letchworth and Stevenage attended the scene.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson who attended the incident said: “On our arrival a woman was trapped upside down in the overturned vehicle.

“Paramedics worked closely with the fire service to treat, stabilise and remove her safely from the car to an awaiting ambulance.”
