There are long delays on roads between Stevenage and Hitchin this morning.

Motorists have reported being stuck in traffic for “more than an hour” heading in and out of the north end of Stevenage – including the roundabout for Junction 8 of the A1(M) and the A602 for Hitchin.

The A1(M) is heavy southbound from junctions 8 to 7, andqueues have been building on the slip exit at Junction 8 for Stevenage.

Affinity Water is carrying out roadworks at Fishers Green – which is a route in and out of Stevenage used by many motorists as an alternative to the motorway and A-road.

There are two-way traffic lights in place for the works, which started today and go on until Monday.

It’s also the first week of the autumn term for schools, which may be adding to the congestion.
