Mobile phones and driving

The law:
It is illegal to ride a motorcycle or drive using hand-held phones or similar devices. It’s also illegal to use a hand-held phone or similar device when supervising a learner driver or rider.
When can you use a mobile phone when driving?
- If you need to call 999/112 in an emergency and it is unsafe to stop your vehicle
- You are safely parked
- If you can use hands-free phones. Please note if the police think you are distracted whilst using hands-free then you can still be penalised
