North East Bedfordshire MP Alistair Burt has called for action if the new interim train timetable fails.

Great Northern operator Govia Thameslink began the timetable on Sunday in an attempt to stabilise the chaotic service after months of disruption.

“While Monday’s services were undoubtedly better than has been seen over recent weeks, they were far from perfect,” said Mr Burt.

“I remain very concerned about the fragility of the situation and it is too early to determine whether or not this interim timetable has been a success.”

Since the May 20 timetable came into effect, chronic delays, cancellations and overcrowding have driven commuters across the region to despair.

Mr Burt wants action to be taken if the situation does not improve.

He said: “I will be watching closely as the week progresses, but I have been clear that failure to improve the service for my constituents should result in action being taken against Govia Thameslink – including losing the franchise if necessary.”
