For the third day in succession motorists faced a crawl to work on the A1 (M) with very slow moving traffic this morning between junctions 8 and 7 southbound around Stevenage.
Further south there were further delays between junction 5 and 3 mainly caused by the contraflow system through the Hatfield Tunnel roadworks.
In Hitchin an earlier accident on the B656 Walsworth Road caused disruption with the road blocked in both directions but it was cleared by 8.30am.
During the night the A1 (M) was salted by the Highways Agency and all A roads and bus routes in Comet country were salted by Hertfordshire County Council as temperatures dropped below zero.
