For many years, I have criticised the idea of building even more homes in Stevenage, due to environmental problems, particularly when it comes to water.

I have said that concreting the bare earth does not allow water to soak into the ground as nature intended, and that our pathetic attempts at drainage, (ie the sewerage system) is 70 per cent less efficient than natural drainage.

So, in effect, since the 70s, I have predicted that building more houses will lead to alternate flooding and droughts (take note Brian Hall, who has often criticised me for my views over the years!)

Now a Lords Committee report tells us that building a million new homes in the South east risks making water shortages worse, and can add to problems with flash flooding in some areas. The committee also criticises the Deputy Prime Minister's office for failing to consult water companies, Industry Regulators and Environmental experts...

Well, I have been an environmentalist for over forty years, and have written two books and countless articles on the subject, so it is just possible I know what I am talking about!
