Hitchin reporter for The Comet, who loves rugby and the X Factor
Name: Laura Burge
Job title: Reporter
Area covered: Hitchin & surrounding villages.
Favourite story: Probably a bungee jump feature, which entailed actually doing the 200ft jump myself. Terrifying, but exhilarating.
Best thing about being a journalist: Being able to represent the views of the community, uncovering stories after a bit of digging, getting to write for a living and doing things that I normally wouldn’t get to do (being a firefighter for the day and bungee jumping, for example).
Worst thing about being a journalist: Pushy people and PR agencies, occasional rude phone calls, not having a decent kettle.
Favourite TV programmes: Anything trashy, mostly. X factor, Britain’s Got Talent, The Apprentice, Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, Sex and the City, Come Dine With Me, Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You.
Favourite Football/ Rugby team: Gloucester RFC (rugby), Forest Green Rovers (football), Gloucestershire CCC (cricket). Support England in all three. Rugby > Football.
Favourite Food: Vegetarian roast dinner (yes, there is such a thing!), followed by a calorific, preferably chocolate dessert. And cheese. Basically, anything that’s bad for me.
Describe yourself in three words: Clumsy, stubborn, competitive
If you were not a journalist what would you be: A Blue Peter/Sky Sports News presenter.
