I missed the appearance of the reversing double decker bus in Lancaster Road (Roger Carvel, Off The Rails on Buses, The Comet May 4).

I have however witnessed large articulated lorries having to do the same during the day. The problem is possibly caused by the number of roundabouts on Bedford Road and, as Mr Carvell states, drivers not knowing the area. Inconsiderate parking is also a problem at the junction with York Road and these large lorries can not turn there. Even the Waste Teams truck has great difficulty negotiating this junction.

I travel by train to Peterborough every Saturday and Sunday and have had to use rail replacement buses several times. Most of the drivers are from far away but usually have very good route notes with them or, on more modern vehicles, Sat Nav. Often though it is the regular travellers who have to guide them along the route.
