SIR - I have read with interest many recent comments on large supermarkets forcing businesses to close. When I was growing up my family did not have a car and the nearest supermarket was in the next town, so my parents did their shopping from local small businesses, who charged the earth for years, knowing there were enough families like ours, to live off, in order to give their own families a decent life.
Well now I have a family of my own and a car. The money I save by going to large supermarkets who charge fair prices can go towards other things which give my family a better life. Please stop feeling sorry for the poor, local shopkeepers who have been fleecing us for decades.
