I sympathise with Eve Cousins on losing her beloved cat (No control over dogs, Comet April 27) and the absolute devastation she must have suffered on discovering that her pet had died in such dreadful circumstances.

I, too, had a similar experience a few years ago but fortunately my cat survived the ordeal. I agree with Eve Cousins about dogs being kept under control.

However, I did learn something from my cat's attack which she might like to know if in the future she decides to get another pet. This is to make sure that her garden is made secure, by this I mean to put up reasonably high fences and to ensure gravel boards are placed below them. I feel cat owners also have a responsibility to their pets, especially if living in an area where there are woods close by where people take their dogs for walks.

At least the cat would have a chance to run for safety if a dog is approaching.
