SIR - I have been encouraged to read about the support for young people's activities in Stevenage over the last two weeks in The Comet.
Having the privilege of working at Hertfordshire County Council's Bowes Lyon Centre in Stevenage for almost two years now, I recognise how deserving they are of quality activities.
Here at Bowes we provide a wide range of activities for young people aged 13-19. Any young person in our age range can attend but we also run specific groups for young carers, for young people with disabilities and lots more deserving groups. These include skate groups, namely the Graf Café running two nights a week. We recently took a coach to Birmingham skatepark and are currently planning a skate tour to either France or Holland.
I am delighted to announce that the Bowes Lyon Centre has just secured a £34,000 grant following a bid by the young people, supported by the Graf Café staff team. We hope that this will go some way to support the skate boarding and BMX riding in Stevenage, specifically for young people at Bowes Lyon Centre.
Finally I acknowledge the need for other facilities for those outside of our age range and support the bid for the plaza.
