SIR - As you reported in your newspaper last week, The Heathcote School achieved its best ever exam results this summer with a significant improvement by all measures.
This has all happened against a backdrop of the announcement made by the county at the start of the academic year that the school is to be closed in 2012.
It is sad that such a vibrant school has to be an unnecessary casualty of the 'Building Schools for the future' project in Stevenage.
What a tribute it is to the headteacher, the management team and the staff of the school, not to mention the pupils themselves that this success has been achieved in the year when everyone concerned with the school was devastated by this decision.
