SIR - This letter is, I hope, a reality check for those people opposing the closure of the Letchworth central post office. The post office has made it clear from the start that one issue only is causing this closure, money. Anyone that has researched in to the situation regarding this, which I would hope professionals such as reporters, MPs, councillors and council/foundation officials would have done, there is very little money to be made in this business. The reason? Everyone wanting an easy life, sitting sipping a mocha latte in an internet cafe while doing an online food shop, paying the bills, renewing car tax, doing the banking and reading the news, putting your local food shop, post office, bank, newsagent out of business. It is a horrible fact that the NatWest advert where your bank becomes a trendy wine bar is becoming reality. In 10 years time Leys Avenue will be nothing but, bars, coffee shops and fast food restaurants. Whose fault is this? Government? Post Office Ltd? No, it is our fault, every one of us has contributed towards how society has developed today and we are going to have to live with it. The new location is only 400 yards from the existing location and less then 200 from the Station Road bus stop, with better parking too. McColls have offered an alternative that will keep them in business and keep a post office in Letchworth.
