Your court report 'Road rage attack in car park,'(Comet September 21) suggests that Judge Geoffrey Breen did not question the wisdom of ignoring arrows painted on lanes, showing the direction of flow.

Perhaps he too, lives in Stevenage, where such behaviour is so accepted that it is not worth remarking upon. This is especially true at town centre roundabouts, where a large number of motorists ignore the arrows and join the shortest queue. If this means turning left from the right hand lane, so be it, you just accelerate hard and swerve round the bonnet of the car on your left. With any luck, the driver will be too shaken to use his horn and even if he does, you just give him a one finger salute and go merrily on your way.

More commonly, drivers line up in the central lane and, ignoring the arrow indicating straight across, they turn right. This forces the vehicle on their right to take evasive action and, in all probability, find themselves in a lane unsuitable for the next part of their journey.

It would be interesting to know how many shunts in Stevenage are down to the poor lane discipline we now witness of a daily basis.
