With reference to your story on page 3 on September 7, 'Town hit by crime spree', the reason the police are asking for witnesses and information for the crime spree is they did not actually bother to go out and investigate it themselves at the time when they were called.

One of my neighbours called the police at 11.30pm that evening to report damage being done to their property and others around them. The police said they only had two cars available that might be needed to attend calls of violent crime. The police refused to send out anyone to investigate, they were not interested. If they had they would have prevented further damage caused that evening and would have saved themselves the embarrassment of asking what happened.

Perhaps the police are under-funded, perhaps they are poorly managed. Perhaps they cannot be bothered, only the Chief Constable can answer that question, one thing is certain, the crime figures for this area will show a big rise for this year.
