I am writing about the thoughtless car parkers in the Chancellors/Daltry Road Area of Stevenage. On April 27 at approximately 11am more cars joined the already car lined road where Chancellors Road meets Daltry Road causing a total blockage, no vehicle other than a bicycle could pass between the double parked cars. These thoughtless parkers are employees at the hospital as well as out patients. The police were called and delivered a notice to one car that was causing the main blockage. It was then pointed out to the police in attendance that three cars down even more inconsiderate parking has caused a gap that only very careful manoeuvring by a normal sized car could clear and that neither an ambulance nor fire engine could pass through to access any properties beyond this point. The police said it would cost too much and as they did not know which car was the last to arrive would do nothing about it. During this time a district nurse arrived to attend to an elderly resident but as she was unable to get through had to abandon her car in another road nearby and walk with her equipment. My son also delivers The Comet newspaper in this area and the delivery van could not get through. One of the cars causing the blocked road had a very polite notice placed on the windscreen asking for more consideration in the future when parking their vehicle - their reaction was to throw the note in the road and when asked not to throw the note away became abusive and claimed they could park where they f.....g liked (this was a female) and did not care about ambulances or fire engines! Several residents have been verbally abused in the past and one physically threatened. The parking situation is a nuisance at the very least on week days and some consideration would help. What rights do we as residents have - it appears none and when asking for assistance from the police they are reluctant to get involved to say the least. Perhaps it will take a serious incident that needs the involvement of an emergency vehicle before any action is taken!
