Overnight snow caused few problems on major roads through Comet country as gritters had been out overnight in Stevenage, North Herts and Central Beds. But all gritters remain on standby with the Met Office warning of further snow, possibly heavy, later in the day.

At one stage during the rush hour there was slow moving traffic on the A1 (M) but all lanes are currently clear of snow. But minor roads remain treacherous in places.

Motorists heading towards the B530 in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, are being warned the road is blocked there by snow which is currently being cleared.
