In reference to the letter regarding the hard-pressed nurses I do agree that most of them work hard and are very professional in their duties.

The reason I am writing this is to inform you that I blame the NHS entirely for the lack of nurses as some recruits who are learning nursing at the Lister and also going to university will not be employed at the hospital. The NHS have and are wasting billions, yes billions on pen-pushers and various other useless projects but not on the people who need it. When I took my wife in to the Lister hospital for a heart check she was told that Lister did not have the necessary equipment and neither did the QEII and she has to wait for nine months to have one done in a North London hospital.

Now they want to close Lister as it is losing millions. Where is the reason for that, it is going to cause heartbreak for a lot of people. I suggest that they get rid of the management and put it in the hands of people who actually know what they are doing.

I would like to thank all the doctors and nurses in Cardiac Suite and ward 9A and B for looking after me when I had a heart attack and also for the after care.

I have one suggestion and that is regarding the shuttle service. When I booked a shuttle service and my wife came to help me the day after my heart attack, we were charged £7 and not the £3.50 that I was told it would cost.

After my second attack I booked a shuttle and they also picked up three other people who were not patients and then proceeded to drop them off at Hitchin Road, which is on the other side of Wilbury, and then two were dropped off at Barclays Bank in Letchworth town and I was the last one to be dropped off. This whole trip cost £14 which is about £5 more than a taxi. They knew I was an urgent case so why did they not drop me off first. In future I shall take a taxi as it is cheaper and more comfortable.
