Whether you are renting or buying, it’s getting harder for ordinary people to find affordable homes in and around Hertfordshire.
There’s a real need for housing for local people, but the grants that housing associations previously received are dwindling as the government cuts its expenditure.
The good news is that North Hertfordshire Homes has a good reputation with banks and funders so we can secure loans at good rates. Building new properties on land it already owns is a clever idea. As well as putting a roof over more families, recycling the land it already owns plays a key part in keeping rents affordable - and doesn’t eat up green space.
The regeneration of John Barker Place in Hitchin is a good example as North Hertfordshire Homes will be providing an extra 39 new homes and is already thinking about other clever ideas for building new homes.
