SIR - Lonely and unloved, I was disturbed to read that the Tennis court area of Norton Common in Letchworth may be developed and floodlit only shortly after the common was designated as a wildlife area.
It would appear that there are mixed objectives for Norton Common that are incompatible - no wildlife would be happy with a floodlit, noisy area in the middle of their habitat. If the proposers want a space that's convenient and unused for 364 days a year (Fun day being the exception) then why not develop Broadway Gardens as a recreation venue. The large paved area would provide an ideal location that will not be a threat to wildlife or residents. Not least the Broadway Gardens may come to life and not sit lonely, unused and unloved at the heart of Letchworth.
