SIR - A June Winter complains in last week's edition that the Letchworth Garden City Council sent a solicitor's letter to someone but gives no details.

My Council did send a solicitor's letter. It was to a member of the Help Group about a counterfeit website that looked exactly like the town council's official website.

The website claimed that the council ran no events for senior citizens and as a result people were misled. Hence the solicitor's letter. What would the people of Letchworth prefer? A group of independent councillors who are prepared (shock horror) to send a solicitor's letter to prevent pensioners being misled or a group who do not support any of the council's popular community activities and would stop them if they could.

In the meantime the town council continues its work. Over the next few weeks we will have the second Picnic in the Park and another Town Centre Day which have proved so successful, designed to bring people into the town in an effort to combat the effects of the recession on the local retailers.

Our senior citizen and young people's events are underway. We are awaiting the district council to pass over the local allotments so we can invest in them. We continue to provide an extra police community support officer for the town, to campaign for a safer A1 junction, and support a 'Dial a Ride' service for those who need it.
