SIR - I was very surprised and saddened to hear that the Van Hage Garden Centre has applied for planning permission to sell off the site for housing. For years, I have thoroughly enjoyed visits to Roger Harvey's which became Van Hage. We do not have many facilities such as this in Stevenage, where you can eat and shop in a relaxed way, it also caters for all ages.
If only the site could be sold as a going concern and remain a much valued garden centre, but of course, the site would be more valuable if it was sold for housing. I also feel very sorry for the staff who will have to relocate or find new jobs. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope the council turns down the plans!
