North Hertfordshire Homes has been using rent money to install more than 200 air-source heat pumps for homes in rural areas of Hertfordshire.

These homes are more exposed to cold weather conditions so generally cost more to heat. The pumps provide a constant ambient temperature and are less likely to breakdown. They do take a bit of getting use to though as the temperature rises and falls much more gradually than traditional heating systems, so a little patience is required.

North Hertfordshire Homes has also replaced more than 250 inefficient central heating boilers with high-energy efficiency ones. Boiler problems are one of the highest reasons for calls to its Repairs Centre, so North Hertfordshire Homes needs to keep investing money so its tenants feel the benefit of warmer homes and cheaper fuel bills.
