SIR - I have noticed the deterioration of a section of Valley Way right outside my house. Every year around September, Herts County Council do major works around the Roaring Meg towards the motorway for no apparent reason (if they were that good, why the need to do this every year for as long as I remember causing major hold-ups plus increase of traffic on my road). However, no works on Valley Way which takes a huge amount of traffic given its proximity to the motorway exits to the town centre which pretty much doubles in poor weather and of course during other road works and traffic diversions during accidents.
