Now there is a surprise, the residents of Baldock basically held to ransom.

Give us your green spaces, and we will revamp your town is basically what Councillor Hone is quoted as saying. Some of us were under the impression that money for sprucing up the town was included as part of the bypass project? I am sure I would not be alone in the opinion that if Baldock can only receive much needed attention (after many years of neglect) at the expense of green areas, then forget it. We have done alright with the lack of investment for years. Maybe my father's letter of a fortnight ago sent a chill down the council's spine. Do something with the town hall?

Then, turn a few pages on in last week's Comet and we see another councillor denying the original amount requested for Christmas lights. How much do the likes of Stevenage and Letchworth invest each year in making their town look festive. So it will be the wonky Christmas tree and a string of lights again in Baldock again this year will it? Maybe the postage stamp bit of green land across the road from me could be sold to pay for a few bits of tinsel.
