SIR - I would like to congratulate our police, from our chief inspector down to our serving PCSO for Baldock, for the excellent reduction in the latest crime figures this year in our town.

For the year 2007-08 Baldock saw a 21.2 per cent reduction in all crimes which equates to 211 less crimes, and to date for this year 2008-09 we have seen a 34 per cent reduction in all crime, which equates to 108 less crimes.

Burglary is down 46.2 per cent, theft from motor vehicles down by 21.2 per cent. Theft of motor vehicles had a 44.4 per cent reduction. Criminal damage has seen a 44.8 per cent reduction, particularly positive as often associated with anti-social behaviour. Theft from shops down 30.4 per cent and thefts from persons has seen a 82.6 per cent reduction in crime.

All in all Baldock people are see a significant reductions across all crimes continuing this year. This is down to good partnership working between the police and NHDC other agencies. The police have made Baldock the safest place to live in Hertfordshire, well done.
