In response to BM's retort about the traffic situation on the Baldock bypass (Road brings benefits, The Comet May 4).

He is missing the point. While I state improved roads generate more traffic, surely the meaning behind my statement is plainly understood by the majority of your readers, indeed history has more than adequately shown (take the M25 as just one example), that any new bypass, motorway or similar road improvement draws traffic from other roads like a magnet - that is what is was built for!

This was the very point of my original letter, that such roads have to be built in the right location. The fact that he has taken this to imply more people go out and buy more cars seems simply amazing!
