I am a Letchworth Garden City resident, who supports the group SOGS (Save our Green Spaces www.clothalgreen.co.uk), whose aim it is to keep the field behind Hartsfield School on Clothall Common, Baldock, a green space, through a Village Green application.
The Village Green application will protect the future of this field for social and leisure activities for all Baldock residents, and anyone else who may wish to use it for these purposes, in the area.
In Letchworth we are lucky as we have Norton Common which provides the same sort of amenities. Like Clothall Common, it is also situated outside central Letchworth but nevertheless is frequented by people of all ages, used for open air festivities and is now a nature reserve for the wildlife that dwells there. The same could, I am sure, be said of Walsworth Common, for Hitchin residents.
I would personally like to wish Baldock and SOGS well with the imminent Village Green inquiry and would urge others to also show their support so that Baldock residents, like those of Letchworth and Hitchin, can also enjoy their own common.
