I was very upset to see the article in last week's Comet about the imminent plans to demolish the Chells family pub in Chells, Stevenage. The proprietors of the pub have tried so hard to make a reputation for themselves as a friendly family public house and now they face having their business taken away from them. My wife and I were married on Halloween last year and had our reception at the pub. We were even featured in The Comet in November. The staff at the pub put themselves out for us and at only a small cost provided a magnificent buffet of great food that really made our day special. Everyone that attended was commenting on how good it was and we spread the word about the pub, recommending them to our friends. They are always putting on events such as barbecues and there is a play room for children. I am sure we are not the only ones that think taking someone's hard earned business away is just not on. The pub is used by many people and is now a respectable social outlet for the community, not to mention employment to the people that work there. I would hope that the council consider these arguments before destroying years of hard work.
