I feel that I must reply to the comments made in the front page article of this week's Comet.

Firstly I am puzzled as to the motive of David Levett who I understand stood for election and failed. In trying to undermine the credibility of the council it cannot be just sour grapes as it was the electorate who cast their votes not us councillors, however if you are starting a crusade then one should get ones facts right. The money for the advert was agreed back in November last when the sum of £2,000 was included in our budget for advertising. As only £500 was spent this chalked us up some brownie points. The advert was one of four layouts shown to full council members and that used was selected by the majority of councillors. The need for the advert was also given the go ahead to answer quibbles in the press about what we had achieved in the last nine months. Mr Levett may remember that before our council was elected the NHDC held a referendum asking electors did they want a town council. This cost the tax payers £19,000 and I do not remember seeing any comment from Mr Levett about this waste of money. The Letchworth Garden City Council who are the ears of the electorate are proving themselves a force to be reckoned with and I am glad to say that this continual sniping is only making us stronger.
