I am one of many pensioners wondering why the Arriva Bus Co. (but not Stevenage Link) considers it necessary to issue a ticket on every occasion when we make a free journey but did not do so before April 1. I have heard several explanations but don't know which version if any to believe. As the bus driver receives no payment in exchange for free tickets issued then he has no need to balance tickets issued against payments received. That being so, what is to stop anyone having access to a ticket machine (not that they would!) running off free tickets against non-existing passengers to the benefit of the bus company and the detriment of the tax payer. Will someone in the know please give us a plausable explanation? -
