Congratulations to the Hitchin Forum for their fight to keep the two charming cottages in Queen Street from disappearing for ever. My wife and I often walk along Queen Street as a lot of people do and tut tut at the way these developers are having a field day as we see a lot of destruction of a similar nature to that back in north London where we come from.

I hope the pressure for an enforcement notice is met to bring those two cottages back into a habitable standard without destroying the natural features inside the cottages. Firstly, let us see some fresh white paint on the window frames, also the original front doors should stay just where they are and be repainted a nice colour. Secondly, let us see a brick wall to replace the same height as at number 38 with a matching gate with a notification to Nelgus Holdings that no cars to park in that area. That would at least make the two cottages attractive to us Hitchin folk.

Now that we have seen that the little church has been sold next door to the two cottages, will there be another fight in the neat future with potential developers. I would like to see, and I am sure other readers of The Comet would agree, photographs printed in The Comet as to what Queen Street looked like before it was so badly destroyed by modern intervention.
