Sarah Kendall, 36, from Stevenage, is running this Sunday’s London Marathon in aid of Muscular Dystrophy UK.
Sarah’s brother David was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a life-shortening degenerative muscle illness, when he was a child.
“So I’m raising money to fund research and support families affected by Muscular Dystrophy,” Sarah said. “Until last November I’d never run for more than 20 minutes but since then I have been running with the Fairlands Valley Spartans, who’ve been very helpful and supportive.”
The average life expectancy of those who have DMD is just 26 years old. “David [who is now 32] is doing really well,” his father Steve Thomas told the Comet.
Sarah, who has also gone swimming with sharks to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK, has collected over £1,200 so far on her fundraising page and hopes to reach her target of £1,750 by Sunday. “She will reach her target one way or another,” Steve added.
