SIR - As we reflect on the sad closure of Burgess Books, I feel there is not only the loss of the bookshop itself to consider, but also the loss of a unique focal point for the community life of Hitchin. The large window at the side of the shop was always full of a huge number of hand-bills advertising a vast range of local societies and events. This provided generous free publicity for so many groups in Hitchin but this has now, sadly, gone from our town centre. Many thanks to the staff of Burgess Books for all their kindness in providing this service. Will any other town centre business step in to fulfil this need, I wonder?
