SIR - I write in response to the article in last week's Comet entitled 'Horrific home drove me to take an overdose.'

Mrs Kennet moved through a mutual exchange. This means she agreed in writing to swap homes with another tenant.

Both homes were inspected by our staff and by the tenants (including Mrs Kennet) before the exchange was approved, and both inspections were satisfactory. Once Mrs Kennet moved into her flat she found that some work needed to be carried out. This is quite usual when a property becomes vacant, even if it is only for half a day whilst the residents swap over.

The work we agreed to do for Mrs Kennet exceeds what we are required to do in the case of a mutual exchange.

We dispute your version of events as Mrs Kennet told us herself that she is very happy in her new home, now that the move is completed.

We take our responsibilities very seriously and are working hard to make sure we improve the services we offer to tenants. Yet in Stevenage Homes' first week you have published an inaccurate story with provocative headlines.

I hope that in future we can count on the support of The Comet. We ask that you print an accurate account of the facts. If we make a mistake we acknowledge it, apologise and try to put it right. However, when we have acted in good faith we will defend our actions.

It is the least that our tenants and your readers deserve.

Interim Chief Executive

EDITOR'S NOTE: Just

one-week-old and already accusing The Comet of being inaccurate and provocative! Perhaps Mr Holder would care to speak in-depth with his customers. We spoke to Mrs Kennet and gained the full

'accurate' story which we stand by - and she even called us after

publication to thank us for the story that we printed!
