It is with great sadness that I read about the recent demise of Letchworth Corinthians CC.
Having played against them for over 30 years, they truly represented cavalier and fun cricket in North Herts, the type of which seems to be vanishing quickly.
Their teams consisted of fine players and willing tryers alike who gave everything on the pitch and then even more in the bar!
In these modern times of numerous distractions for young people, the likelihood of a similar team with the spirit of Corinthians or the Ickleford Cricketers emerging nowadays is very small indeed, let alone become a virtual institution and last for 45 years.
Their departure from the local scene leaves a huge void that we will never see filled.
