I do not drive (very environmentally friendly) and had an important job interview at 9.30am one morning. As I only live, at the most, a 15-minute bus ride from the town centre, I left my abode at least 45 minutes before I needed to be at the interview, and yet I was late by approximately 15 minutes. I waited from 8.40am until almost 9.15 for a bus, along with other irate commuters. Non-drivers seem to have no choice in the matter as Arriva has bought out their competition and commuters are now at their mercy. Arriva has also cut some services and passengers have been left standing at the bus stop because the bus is full. This bus company only recently increased their fares to £1.30 each way! There seems to be no point in complaining to the drivers as they are only doing their job. So, as for Government aims for getting people out of their cars and onto public transport, it is laughable, because next time I have an important appointment I shall put on sensible shoes and walk as it may be faster.
