I am writing in response to the letter from T Stafford-Bell with its clear implication that previous wars were fought by white British people to save us from an invasion of foreigners of different races, colours and beliefs who want to destroy our way of life.

Mr Stafford-Bell might like to spend two minutes in silence to consider the sacrifices made on behalf of this country by the thousands of people including Ghurkhas, Poles, Jews, Sikhs, black Americans and many others to help save us from the white supremacist beliefs of Nazism.

He might then like to spend a little time to think about the implications of the fact that the most recent recipient of the Victoria Cross, Johnson Beharry, is black.
