SIR - I write on the continuing saga of the care and attention given at the Lister Hospital. I am a medical secretary at the hospital and have had over a year of uncertainty as to whether I would keep my position or not, which has been very unsettling to say the least.
However, I recently have had the misfortune of being admitted to the hospital as an emergency so I saw the other side of the coin as a patient. The care I received in the A&E Department and Radiology could not be faulted and the staff of Wards 8A and 5B were so caring, even though they were overworked and busy all of the time. They always had time to reassure patients and help them when necessary. Even the meals were quite presentable, adequate and tasty.
I feel that the hospital has had more than its fair share of criticism, from kitchen staff to the nursing staff, and I think that people should be grateful that we have such a hospital in our community. We are working with staff shortages and everyone does their best that they can.
