My son Tyler was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma on April 29, 2006. This is a cancer that attacks the lymph glands.

Our world fell apart and my first thought was will my nine year old son die? Nobody can answer that' not even the top consultant at Addenbroke's Hospital.

My second thought was why has my baby got cancer? Again nobody can answer that - its the luck of the draw.

We are nearly six months down the line and I now know the answer to my first question - no he is not going to die thanks to the care given to him from all that staff on ward C2 in Addenbroke's and the fantastic staff in the Bluebell Ward at the Lister Hospital.

We still have a long road ahead of us and many years of scans, check-ups and the thought at the back of our minds that it could come back, but like the last few months we have to take it a step at a time.

Where there is life there is hope never forget that, I know exactly what Matthew Dale's family (Comet, October 19) is going through, I understand the fear and the worry that comes from this situation, as if having a child with cancer is not enough you also have the fear and worry of how will we cope? The answer is you just do with a lot of help from your family and friends.

I used to think that people that won the lottery were lucky people. I now know we are lucky people I have a great husband, five wonderful healthy children, family and friends - what more could I ever want?
