Last year's Poppy Appeal raised a staggering £24,700,046 and I would like to thank everyone from Bedfordshire who contributed to this total, and ask for their support again for this year's appeal which starts on October 28.
The importance of the Poppy Appeal in safeguarding the welfare, interests and memory of the service community cannot be underestimated.
There are 10.5 million ex-servicemen and women across the UK, and up to 630,000 of them need support.
The County Council will be supporting the appeal with poppy collections in our receptions and I would urge people to make a donation to the appeal and wear their poppy with pride.
Cllr RICHARD BAKER, Chairman, Bedfordshire County Council
