England, though many choose to forget it, is a Christian country. Throughout time we have welcomed others with different religions and cultures to our country (much to the detriment of our own).
However, I believe that Protestant organisations such as the Apprentice Boys of Derry and particularly the Orange Order perpetuate the spirit of bigotry and hatred of long ago Britain, which can be seen first hand by residents in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, and which has absolutely no place in an English country town.
I feel that should they wish to celebrate the unfortunate events of the 17th century, and the heroism of the brave 13, the Apprentice Boys of Derry and their like should return to Londonderry to do so and leave Stotfold in peace.
There are many good Protestants, Catholics, Sikhs, Moslems and Jews, all would do far better to concentrate on learning to live together in harmony, rather than perpetuate old feuds.
Let adults of all faiths and cultures put aside their differences and concentrate their energies on teaching their children tolerance, respect and friendship, in order that some day the world may be a better place for all.
