Having read Mr Crowe's and Mr Maxwell's comments about the proposed fish and chip shop for Ickleford in last week's Comet, I have come to the conclusion that they must be inebriated by their own exuberant verbosity, they should remember that a still tongue makes a wise head.

I challenge them on the claim that the village does not want a fish and chip shop, this is a false claim. There is a petition submitted to the planning officer at NHDC with many signatures in favour of a fish and chip shop for the village.

I am rather fed up about hearing about winning the Village of the Year when there is a disgraceful amount of trash down Grubs Lane, Gerry's Hole, and not forgetting the trash which is behind St Katherine's Close. I was truly amazed to see how the village could have won.

Regarding Mr Crowe's comment that there was only one negative view for the fish and chip shop, well, he has been proved wrong by the tremendous amount of support which has been received to have one. This must show you how much out of touch Mr Crowe is with the village. I am writing for the silent majority.

* It is quite wrong of Messrs Maxwell and Crowe to assume in whatever their capacity within the parish council that a takeaway of any sort would be unpopular in Ickleford.

On the contrary, it would be welcomed by most OAPs and working families within the village. Perhaps, the above mentioned gentlemen do not qualify for these categories.

More is the concern we, the villagers, do not appear to have been given the opportunity to support such a proposal.

I only wish I had the imagination to suggest such a beneficial facility when I filled in my parish plan.
