SIR - Travelling down Baldock High Street you cannot help wonder at today's modern planners.

Forget the lamp post still positioned in the middle of a parking bay (you wouldn't have expected it to be moved before work started!) it is the obvious thought that has been incorporated in the design of the bays. If they are to be swept (at all?) it will have to be done by hand broom.

Surely incorporating a radius, instead of a 90 degree corner, a) it is logical; b) not expensive; c) there's enough room.

If there were a radius a normal road or precinct sweeper could have cleared the debris, as it is, no sweeper with a round brush can sweep a square corner. There are other advantages, but the planners should know those already.

It is a shame really, but does it matter? one might ask. We will need the parking bays for our horses soon as the High Street will not be wide enough for cars!

Enough moaning.
