Now it emerges that McColl's is part of the Heritage (sic) Foundation's demolition plan and presumably other Station Road shops including Letchworth's first shop - previously Beddoes.

It seems odd that wooden glazing bars must be retained, while the built environment is flattened. Naturally this will increase the Foundation's estate, and thereby the rental value; some bonuses involved there?

W Percival Westell, an early Letchworthian, envisaged a town where increasing values would cover the rates. Some hope. We shall not get a proper debate about this until the various politicians emerge from their sleep and lead the town in a proper way.
