However much the Home Secretary pretends that the merger of the county police forces is his idea we all know that he is merely carrying out his orders from Brussels. The next merger will be between the two large Anglian forces into one large regional police force to fit in with the EU's plans for the region. The absorption of all the Anglian county councils into one large regional authority will take a little longer but it is apparently what we all voted for in 1975, except that nobody told us.
