The Stevenage Conservatives have defended an election leaflet which says the Labour-run Stevenage Borough Council is “hiding millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money in reserves” – after the town’s Labour leader accused the group of “blatant lies”.
Police officers have thanked the parents of three Stevenage schoolgirls – arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to two kittens – for their co-operation after interviews were carried out with the girls.
Barclay School’s governing body has responsed to comments from the Future Academies Trust about its planned takeover of the Stevenage school – saying the FAT “could have responded to questions from staff at any time”.
Barclay School’s NEU union representative and the county councillor for the area have hit back at claims from the Stevenage MP that concern surrounding the secondary school becoming an academy is down to “silly scaremongering”.
Staff at Stevenage’s Barclay School have been told their employment will transfer to Future Academies on February 1 – with an education union spokesman describing the timing of the announcement as “scandalous”.
